What is Google +1?

What is Google + 1?

It could be beginning of the end of the dominance of Facebook and Twitter on the social web. Some experts are predicting that Google’s new “Plus 1″ initiative is a game-changer and a real threat to the established social media brands.

So what is Google +1?

Launched globally last year, Google’s +1 button is their answer to the Facebook “Like” button, with the specific intention  to increase its precence on the web and make Google more social. The button works in a similar way to the Facebook “Like” or Twitter “Tweet” button. If users like the content on your site, they’ll click the +1 button. Google will then show +1 buttons next to all search results and ads, whlist encouraging other sites to include the buttons. All +1′s are public and they’re tied to Gogle profiles. The idea is that Google will use this data to personalise
search results and ads by recommendeing sites “+1″ by your friends. The inference here is that the more likes you have, the more visibility you’ll have in the search rankings, but we’ll see how this one plays out.

So should your business have a +1 button on your site? Its free, (just visit www.google.com/webmastgers/+1/button/ to get a unique+1 button for your site) so our advice is to go ahead and do it. You cannot afford to ignore Google, as for the majority of businesses its the most important way to drive customers to your site.
